I’m Clare Humpleby and I am a qualified Career Coach.
Like many small business founders, I established Wonder Career as a business because it provides the coaching service I really wanted and needed for myself!
My career started in Human Resources, where I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to work in a variety of interesting and challenging senior-level roles (both in Jersey and Internationally).
However, over the years, I started to notice more and more colleagues, friends, and relatives were talking to me about the issues and frustrations of their careers and getting confused about the ‘What’s next?’.
I found they were asking for advice and support as they navigated potential career change because they knew I had experience of all aspects of people management and a degree of ‘inside knowledge’ about how organisations worked - but also because facing career change alone can sometimes feel overwhelming and confusing.
I came to realise that I loved this ‘side hustle’ of one-to-one career coaching work and wanted to offer this in a more structured way as a service to others.
Our careers, like life, can be work in progress and it took me a while, (and the completion of my professional CCS Career Coach qualification) to build the confidence to incorporate this into my own ‘portfolio’ career.
Through my own self-reflection work, I realised career coaching is a natural work ‘fit’ for me. It combines my strengths and skills, my Human Resource experience, and a passionate interest in other people’s careers. I enjoy encouraging people to be curious by asking challenging questions.
Although I live in Jersey (the home of the Jersey Wonder!) I grew up in Hong Kong and have relocated internationally 7 times (also spending time living in London and Singapore). So, I also understand first-hand some of the anxieties and challenges that can accompany career – and life – transitions. I love being able to use my personal experience of change to provide practical support and guidance in my career coaching work.
I am fortunate that my own career allows me to do meaningful work that aligns with my personal values:
Contributing positively
By giving my time and energy and sharing my expertise and experience to help others develop and grow.
Giving my best
Continually developing my own competence and capabilities.
Showing care
Being compassionate, responsible, and trustworthy in my actions.
Appreciating uniqueness
Showing respect for individuality and difference.
